Session 10 - Part 2: Virtual Course on “Key Concepts for Economies in Conflict and Fragile Settings”

"Institutions, democracy and peace" will be taught by Hannes Mueller (IAE (CSIC), Barcelona School of Economics, CEPR) on 18 May 2026, 15:00 BST. The ReCIPE programme is offering a second part of the free virtual course on "Key Concepts for Economies in Conflict and Fragile Settings" for the spring of 2026, which will be taught by a series of lecturers and experts in the field. ABOUT THE COURSE What? Building on its first edition, the course on “Key Concepts for Economies in Conflict and Fragile Settings – Part 2” is designed around a series of twelve 60-minute lectures with 15 minutes for Q&A. Centered around ReCIPE's research themes, the course will delve deeper into key topics related to economies in fragile and conflict-affected settings introduced in the first series. It also includes lectures on special topics not covered by ReCIPE’s research themes and a practical session guiding participants on how to write a research proposal for funding purposes. Why? While conflict has become an ever more pressing global problem, important gaps in our understanding remain, and few graduate programmes offer courses specifically dedicated to the topic. This virtual course provides an opportunity to introduce as wide an audience as possible to conflict in the context of fragile economies. For whom? The course is open free-of-charge to all interested participants. It is accessible to those at the master's degree level with a background in economics. While participation in the first edition is not required, participants who attended the first lecture series or who have prior exposure to conflict-related topics may find the material easier to follow. Course materials will also be available after the fact on the ReCIPE website. Replays of the first series are accessible here. When? The virtual course will meet weekly on Monday from 2 March - 8 June (except Monday 6 April, 4 May and 25 May), at 15:00-16:00 London time (GMT through March dates, BST for April, May and June dates).
