An Unfinished African Dream: Eritrea Ancient History to 1968
Author Mohamed Kheir Omer discusses with journalist John Sullivan his new book, The Dynamics of an Unfinished African Dream/Eritrea: Ancient History to 1968, published January 2020. Mohamed Kheir Omer traces the history of Eritrea, exploring how ethnicity, religion, geography, colonialism, world powers, a war of liberation and other factors have shaped its fate in his new social history book, “The Dynamics of an Unfinished African Dream: Eritrea: Ancient History to 1968” (published by Lulu). Based on many reference sources available in various languages, local and foreign, Omer shares the various reasons the African country Eritrea and its people continue to struggle to build a just, democratic, and inclusive country. Within the comprehensive narrative the author includes several pictures and documents to be published for the first time. Everything combines to present a case study of an African country that had one of the earliest human fossils and wrote its own script through one of the longest liberation movements of any country. About the Author Mohamed Kheir Omer was born in 1952, at an important junction of Eritrean history when Eritrea was federated to Ethiopia and grew up in western Eritrea where the liberation movement started. From an early age he was a member of the Eritrean Liberation Front (ELF). The author is an Eritrean-Norwegian and has a doctorate in Veterinary Science from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science.
