Initially, the vessel was armed with two masts inclined to the bow with lateen sails; later, it lost the foremast, which was replaced by a bowsprit with jibs, which improved the maneuverability of the vessel. The hull had a characteristic egg-shaped form with a significant beam deflection. Being a very strong sea vessel, the leudo could withstand weather conditions that were unbearable even for larger vessels with stronger hulls. It was used primarily for cargo transportation and had a carrying capacity of 15 to 20 tons, a length of 15-16 meters and a width of about 5 meters. Leudo was used primarily by small enterprises for their own transportation of hardware, manufactured goods, various tools, fabrics, products (usually cheeses, flour, vegetables and wine, but others were not excluded). With the efforts of a large number of people, the leudo could be pulled ashore, which allowed trading with any coastal areas even in the absence of ports or berths.
