Automatic Heating System for Sling Aircraft and other Rotax-powered aircraft
This video is a short demo of the prototype of an automatic heating system for experimental planes with water-cooled engines, such as my Sling 4. The pilot or passenger will be able to select a temperature and have the controller automatically choose the fan speed, direction of airflow as well as regulate the volume of hot water flowing through the heater core. Optionally, a full set of manual controls is available. This design is similar to automatic climate control systems found in cars, though this design omits air conditioning to save space and weight. Using the water loop from the engine virtually eliminates the possibility of deadly carbon monoxide entering the cabin due to a leaky muffler. In addition, since this system continuously heats recirculated air rather than heating outside air, the cabin can remain at a comfortable temperature even when the outside air temperature is well below freezing.
