The power of People watching | Craig Twyford | TEDxSquareMile

‘People watching’ is a common activity in virtually all societies, and today technology has given us more power to vicariously watch people than ever before. Here, Craig Twyford tells us about how his JamJar Story Project is creating a digital record of everyday life in the 21st century. At present people commonly share only the exceptional and the remarkable online, but by sharing the everyday he says, we can connect with each other’s similarities and with the beauty of those commonplace moments. Craig Twyford is the director of Octopus Analytics, a research company he launched in 2011. In 2014, inspired by the Mass Observation project, he began the JamJar Story Project, an online digital archive of everyday life in the UK. The archive was launched in June, and recently celebrated its first 200 uploads. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
