The team won all the previous races of the season, brought the most new products, and they worked. As a result, the Silver Arrows pulled ahead again. At the start, rain began to drizzle several times, keeping the track barely damp, but there were no large puddles. Franco Colapinto spun off into the safety zone on the pit exit lap but was able to continue, despite the drivers complaining of a complete lack of grip. Pirelli brought a trio of soft compounds, and such a variety of tires had never been seen at a Formula 1 start. Norris, Piastri, and several other drivers started on intermediates, others chose mediums, and the rest started the race on softs. Consequently, grip at the start varied dramatically. Their first attempt to start the car failed. Arvid Lindblad showed that the car wasn't ready—the gearbox wasn't working. He was rolled back to the pit lane, while the others went for an extra warm-up lap. They also failed to start the second time, as Lindblad hadn't been removed in time. The drivers returned for a second lap, and everyone's tires had cooled. When the F1 race finally began, Norris took the lead thanks to the right tire choice, Antonelli ahead of Russell, and Hamilton ahead of Piastri. But it quickly became clear that everyone who started on intermediates was lagging behind on the drying track. On lap seven, Russell overtook Antonelli and took the lead. Kimi tried to hold him off, locked up his tires, and nearly crashed into the wall. A fierce internal battle ensued at Mercedes—the two Formula 1 drivers nearly collided, but continued on. Antonelli pressured Russell, and on lap 22, Kimi finally took the lead. However, on the very next lap, he made a mistake, which Russell immediately capitalized on. Antonelli counterattacked, cut the chicane, the drivers touched wheels, and the Italian was asked to retake the lead. The major turning point came on lap 30. Due to a loss of power, George Russell cut Turn 9 and stalled on the track. His car was smoking, and Russell threw his headrest onto the tarmac and left the cockpit. Kimi Antonelli once again took the lead, and this time his lead was no longer in danger. Race control announced a virtual safety car to recover Russell's car, and the drivers returned to the pit lane for tire changes. The second half of the race brought several more dramatic moments. Isaac Hajjar made a particularly rough tackle on Charles Leclerc, changing his line under braking, and ultimately received a 10-second penalty. Lando Norris retired with a gearbox failure. Sergio Perez stopped in the pits with a broken suspension, which failed spontaneously under braking in the pit lane. Lewis Hamilton pressured Max Verstappen for second place, but the Ferrari engine lacked the power to attack on the straights. However, on lap 61, Hamilton finally overtook Verstappen, securing second place. Kimi Antonelli won the Canadian Grand Prix, taking his fourth consecutive victory and significantly extending his lead in the drivers' standings.
