In Soviet memory, Dieter Bohlen will remain the smiling, blue-eyed, guitar-playing blond who offset the long-haired and perpetually tanned Thomas Anders, as well as the songs he wrote like "You're My Heart, You're My Soul" and "Cheri, Cheri Lady." And it seems that the years with Modern Talking were the happiest in both their lives and careers for these two men. Dieter Bohlen, born the son of a building contractor, began writing simple pop while still in school and continued this work when he landed a job at a local recording studio. One day in the studio corridors, Bohlen spotted his peer Bernd Weidung, whom the world would soon come to know as Thomas Anders, the vocalist of Modern Talking. Although the duo would soon achieve incredible success in Western and Eastern Europe, the relationship between the members within the band was far from ideal, and after four years, to the chagrin of their female fans, the duo broke up. Only music critics rejoiced at the disappearance of Modern Talking, calling Dieter Bohlen's music one long song with countless variations (a view, incidentally, shared by Thomas Anders). After the breakup of Modern Talking, Dieter continued writing music and producing young singers, but their success was nowhere near what it had once been. So, 11 years later, Bohlen and Anders reunited, only to sell 165 million records before going their separate ways for good. What did Dieter Bohlen do next? He worked with his own band, Blue System, and wrote songs for Chris Norman of Smoky, as well as singers C.C. Catch and Bonnie Tyler. For several seasons, he served as a judge on a youth singing competition show, where he gained a reputation for being quick to criticize young people (he once described one contestant as "you sing like a garden gnome on drugs"). A man of action, Bohlen co-founded a clothing label, released a cologne called "Provocation," a wallpaper line, and—as is typical—published several books in collaboration with professional journalists (one of which is called "The Life of a Superstar"). The superstar himself (net worth: $70 million) lives in a village near Hamburg in a $3 million house with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and home office. Dieter Bohlen ostensibly lives alone, but before that, his personal life had been mixed: his first wife was the woman with whom he composed his most famous hits (she wrote poetry). They were married for 11 years and raised three children (the eldest is now 38). Then came a childless four-week (!) marriage to a German TV presenter, and a five-year relationship with a model 26 years younger, who had one child together. Until recently, Dieter was raising two young children (11 and 12) with a 40-year-old German woman named Fatma. Meanwhile, his former colleague Thomas Anders, who earned nearly 11 million during his career, lived with a German model for 14 years and is now raising a 12-year-old son with another 54-year-old woman...
