   • Hundred Hues – Echoes of Karuta   Hundred Hues - Echoes of Karuta - is a musical project that reimagines each poem from the Hyakunin Isshu—a beloved anthology of one hundred classical Japanese waka poems—as contemporary English-language music. Rather than translating the original poems directly, the project reconstructs their emotions, imagery, and human experiences into songs that resonate with modern listeners around the world. Through Hundred Hues - Echoes of Karuta -, we hope to share the timeless spirit of the Hyakunin Isshu beyond language and cultural boundaries. When Everything Changed is inspired by Poem No. 43, written by Fujiwara no Atsutada. The original poem reflects on how meeting someone can quietly transform the heart. Looking back, the poet realizes that before that encounter, life seemed far simpler and less troubled. In this modern reinterpretation, the poem becomes a story about two rivals who repeatedly cross paths over the years. Nothing dramatic happens. The seasons continue, familiar places remain unchanged, and the distance between them appears the same. Yet little by little, the world begins to look different. Built around soaring guitars, youthful energy, and a sense of longing, When Everything Changed explores the moment when an ordinary connection becomes impossible to ignore.
