Typically lower back pain when standing or walking points to one thing: posterior element compression in your lumbar spine. Essentially when you stand or walk, the joints at the back of your spine compress together and create pain. When you sit, they open up and the pain disappears. 🤔 WHAT CONDITIONS CAUSE BACK PAIN WHEN STANDING? This back pain pattern is caused by four primary conditions: anterior pelvic tilt, facet joint arthritis, degenerative disc disease (DDD), and spinal stenosis. You don't need all four conditions - just one can create this exact pain pattern. Anterior pelvic tilt is the most common culprit: tight hip flexors pull your lumbar spine into too much extension, compressing your posterior elements with every step you take. The great news?
