Congress has authorized a growth of up to 1,000 more Marines for the Marine Corps Security Guard program. The Marine Security Guard program was established in December 1948. Marines on MSG duty provide internal security preventing the compromise of classified material vital to the national security of the United States. They also protect U.S. citizens and U.S. government property located within designated U.S. diplomatic and consular premises.
