Omani National Museum Located in Old Muscat, the historic heart of the capital, Muscat, it stands directly opposite the famous Al Alam Royal Palace. Established by royal decree in 2013, it opened its doors to visitors on July 30, 2016. The museum's most notable features include: 1. Extensive and Rich Collection The museum sheds light on a vast historical period spanning from the earliest human settlements on the Omani Peninsula (approximately 2 million years ago) to the present day. Inside, over 5,400 rare artifacts are displayed, reflecting the country's 3,000-year history, maritime heritage, and Islamic culture. These artifacts include prehistoric metal objects, traditional Omani weapons and daggers (Khanjar), replicas of ancient trading ships, jewelry, and handwritten historical documents. 2. The Letter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) This invaluable artifact, whose photograph you shared, is one of the museum's most striking features. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) sent a diplomatic letter through his envoy to the Omani rulers of the time (sons of Jufayda and Abd), the brothers Jaifar and Abd Al-Julanda, to spread Islam. This historic message was a turning point in the Omani people's peaceful and voluntary acceptance of Islam. The display of this document in the museum directly reveals Oman's strategic and respected place in early Islamic history. 3. Thematic Galleries The museum building covers an area of ​​approximately 13,700 square meters and contains 14 permanent galleries. Some of the prominent galleries include: Maritime History Gallery: Explores Oman's great maritime and trading history on the high seas. MWNF - Museum With No Frontiers Weapons and Armor Gallery: Showcases traditional defense arts and craftsmanship.
