France had internal conflicts that led to several massacres, the Italian states also had their problems, and the Spanish Netherlands was experiencing a Great Insurrection fomented by the United Dutch Provinces and England, which led Spain to the Eighty Years' War and conflicts with the English, such as those seen in the Felicísima expedition and the English Counter Armada. This would eventually end in a conflict that began as a religious civil war but quickly internationalized, becoming a multinational conflict lasting 30 years.
