El origen del PAVO ocultó algo durante siglos — el ADN antiguo lo encontró

Durante siglos, la historia del pavo doméstico tuvo una sola línea: México, España, el mundo. Una domesticación, un camino, un destino. Lo que nadie preguntó es si esa línea era la única. El análisis de ADN antiguo extraído de huesos y coprolitos de treinta y ocho yacimientos arqueológicos del suroeste de Norteamérica reveló un linaje doméstico cerrado sobre sí mismo, genéticamente separado tanto de los pavos silvestres locales como del pavo mexicano. Un linaje que no aparece en ningún animal vivo hoy. Un linaje que existió durante más de mil años y que terminó sin dejar descendencia biológica. Lo que la genética encontró en esos restos no solo cambia el origen del pavo. Cambia lo que entendemos por domesticación, por pérdida, y por la forma en que una cultura puede desaparecer junto al animal que crió.
