I test-rode Yamaha's top-of-the-line cruiser models for overseas markets, the XV1900A Midnight Star and the XV1900CU Raider, and here's my comparative review. Both bikes share a massive engine: an air-cooled, 4-stroke, 4-valve, OHV, 48-degree V-twin with a total displacement of 1,854cc, a 100mm big bore, and a 118mm long stroke. This engine is mounted on Yamaha's unique aluminum double-cradle frame. While their styles are completely different, many might assume that their riding characteristics would be almost identical, given that the engine type and basic chassis configuration are the same on the spec sheet. However, after riding them side-by-side, it's actually difficult to find similarities; their riding characteristics are quite different.
