She attended school in New Madrid,  Missouri where Mathematics and English were her favorite subjects. She loved playing basketball and often laughed while sharing stories about her coach insisting she play guard despite her height. She treasured memories of growing up on the family farm and spoke warmly of the love and closeness shared amongst her siblings and family. Marrying the love of her life, Leonard Williams, Jr.,  they raised four beautiful and talented children: Doris, Jerry, Marjorie, and Daryl. Her family was the center of her world, and she poured love, wisdom, grace, and strength into every generation that followed her. Accepting Christ at an early age, she was a faithful and devoted member of Love Fellowship Church/ Kingdom Impact Center.  She actively served on the Usher and Mother’s boards.  Her gentle spirit and unwavering faith were evident in the way she lived each day. You could often hear her softly humming, and when asked about her favorite song, she would always say, “I Won’t Complain.” Mary dedicated 20 years of service to the Federal Government before retiring. She was known by many for her kindness, warm smile, compassionate heart, and twinkling eyes that brought comfort and joy to everyone she encountered. Loyal to serving her community and improving the lives of those around her, she was an active member of the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council, where she faithfully served as President of the Neighborhood Watch; working to promote safety, unity, and pride within her community. Her dedication to civic engagement and neighborhood leadership earned her recognition as an Octogenarian Award recipient, the Healthy Living Award from sponsors of the “Let’s Talk about Diabetes”,  proclamations from the Mayor and City Council of Kansas City, Missouri and the Jackson County, Missouri Legislature.  These accomplishments are reflective of her lifelong service and positive impact. Mary believed strongly in the power of civic participation and never missed an opportunity to cast her vote, whether in person or by absentee ballot. She viewed voting as both a privilege and a responsibility and encouraged others to make their voices heard through the democratic process. Equally committed to her health and well-being, Mary enjoyed exercising each week and cherished her daily walks through the neighborhood. She looked forward to sharing laughter and words of encouragement while building meaningful friendships at the Linwood YMCA. Through her leadership, service, and active lifestyle, she touched countless lives and inspired others to remain engaged, connected, and purposeful at every stage of life. She appreciated beauty in all forms, from flowers blooming in her garden to the immaculate care of her home. Mary was known for her fashionable style and for preparing meals and desserts that family and friends eagerly anticipated; especially her beloved fried chicken, potato salad, dressing and strawberry cake.
