Ferrovia Valle Caudina, c'è la data: riapertura nel 2027 e collegamento con Afragola AV

The modernization work on the Valle Caudina railway is proceeding according to schedule. This was confirmed this morning at the end of the technical and institutional inspection along the Benevento-Cancello section, which included EAV executives, technicians, and the mayors of the affected municipalities. The goal remains unchanged: to reopen the line in the first quarter of 2027. The project, financed with €100 million in PNRR funds, is now in its final phase. As explained by Tommaso Esposito, Head of Infrastructure Investments at EAV, the renewal of the railway infrastructure was completed last June, while final tests on the signaling system are underway. "We will shortly submit all the documentation to ANSFISA to obtain authorization to operate the line," Esposito explained. Among the main developments that emerged during the inspection was the future connection with Naples Afragola High Speed. Thanks to the Cancello bypass built by RFI as part of the Naples-Bari high-speed line, trains in the Caudina Valley will be able to reach the Afragola rail hub directly, offering commuters faster access to the national high-speed network. Regarding service, EAV is finalizing its new operating plan. The proposed plan includes two types of connections: "Fast" routes, with limited stops at the main stations to reduce travel times, and traditional routes, with all intermediate stops to ensure service to the valley's towns. Regional Councilor Pellegrino Mastella, the initiator of the institutional discussions in recent months, expressed satisfaction, emphasizing that the inspection confirmed that the project was on track for completion. The day was also significant for EAV's governance. With the resignation of the entire Board of Directors, Umberto De Gregorio's long presidency comes to an end. During the meeting, Benevento Mayor Clemente Mastella publicly thanked the former president for his years of leadership of the regional transport company.
