Today, both in school and in the workplace, knowing how to properly use PCs, mobile devices, and the web is essential. Many believe they know how to use them, but in reality, they only have a superficial understanding of what's really needed. This course is ideal for those preparing for the ICDL Essentials / ICDL Prime / ICDL Base / ICDL Standard / ICDL Full Standard (formerly ECDL - European Computer Driving Licence) certification programs, for professionals who want to improve their IT skills, and for anyone who wants to better understand the use of computers and ICT. Contents of the "Computers and Devices" Tutorial: 🟥 ICT ◾ Define the term Information and Communication Technology (ICT). ◾ Identify different types of ICT services and uses, such as Internet services, mobile technologies, and office productivity applications. 🟥 Hardware ◾ Define the term hardware. Identify the main types of computers, such as desktops, laptops, and tablets. Identify the main types of devices, such as smartphones, media players, and digital cameras. ◾ Define the terms processor, RAM (Random Access Memory), and mass storage. Understand their impact on computer and device performance. ◾ Identify the main types of integrated and external peripherals, such as printers, displays, scanners, keyboards, mice/trackpads, webcams, speakers, microphones, and docking stations. ◾ Identify the most common input/output ports, such as USB and HDMI. 🟥 Software and Licensing ◾ Define the term software and distinguish between the main types of software: operating systems and applications. Know that software can be installed locally or available online. ◾ Define the term operating system and identify some common operating systems for computers and electronic devices. ◾ Identify some common examples of applications, such as office productivity suites, communications, social networks, multimedia processing, design, and mobile applications. ◾ Define the term "EULA" (End-User License Agreement). Know that software must be licensed before it can be used. ◾ Explain the types of software licenses: proprietary, open source, trial version, shareware, and freeware. 🟥 Startup, Shutdown ◾ Turn on a computer and log in securely using a username and password. ◾ Log off, shut down, and restart a computer using the correct procedure.
