Hunter Hunt-Hendrix - Does Liturgy play metal? Do I respect metal?

I forgot to mention my hypothesis that what is currently keeping metal from being as interesting and original as it could be is perhaps its focus on sheer craftsmanship (in the best of cases), which is a valuable end in itself - but which ought to be put in combination with genuine originality too. Additional note: Do I have respect for previous generations of black metal bands? Absolutely, however I also believe that the highest respect you can show someone is to make contact with the essence of their art in a way that fractures their own beliefs about what is most important about it. I don't think metal is about having and upholding the status of heroes from previous generations. I think it is quite metal to create the type of breach that Liturgy has in the world of metal. I probably ought to make a video that explicitly addresses my theory of metal's history and its place in the history of music in general as well as the history of civilization as such. That will clarify a lot, I'm sure. And additionally, just because Liturgy is a metal band doesn't change the fact that at a deeper level Liturgy is simply *Liturgy*, an entity that is ultimately using metal as a material rather than a form, and even using music itself as a material rather than as a form.
