Tony Banks Interview September 2, 1981

Hello, my fellow Banksians!! Here's an interview with Tony conducted 40 years ago today! Listen to Tony in this interview recorded at the then-new Genesis studio The Farm in Surrey. The audio was provided by journalist Claude François from Luxembourg who was invited by the band's management, along with a few journalists from Germany, to a quite exclusive and extremely sympathetic interview session. Claude, a Genesis fan, spoke to Tony on that very special day in early September, 1981, a couple of weeks before the world wide release of the album 'Abacab'. Claude remembers quite well where he made this interview with Tony, in the living room of The Farm (cookies were provided by the guys' families). Despite tons of Genesis interview bits and pieces released over the years, even genuine Genesis fans will discover some quite astonishing, unvarnished statements by Tony. He speaks about the new style they adopted with 'Abacab', their writing and recording processes, critic reception, their concerts and light show, among other subjects. This interview was broadcast a few weeks later at RTL Radio Luxembourg in Fernand Mathes’ show „Rockkëscht“, and a report was published by Luxembourg weekly Télécran - Claude was an editor of that magazine.
