La DISCUSSIONE/PRESENTAZIONE della Tesi (in 7 consigli šŸ’”)

How to effectively present/discuss your thesis with 7 tips: which strategies to adopt and which mistakes to avoid. Here are the tips: 1. Write the presentation text. Knowing the topic and knowing how to present it are two completely different things. Moreover, the emotion of the moment can cause me to forget important things and instead remember nonessential things. 2. Structure your text, which, for example, might follow this outline: the title of the work; the occasion that prompted it; the goals it was aimed at; the method used; the limitations we remained within (very important); the path taken in the chapters (here we emphasize how the path is logical and coherent); the conclusions we reached; any open questions; any acknowledgements. 3. Use concrete examples. During an oral presentation, it is effective to use a few well-chosen concrete examples. For example, while presenting a chapter, we can choose an episode or a piece of data, even an anecdote, or a quote that can convey the entire meaning of the chapter. 4. Highlight the text's structure. Find a way to mark specific parts of the text, for example, with bold or highlighter. These highlighted elements should be few and well-chosen so they can be identified at a glance. 5. Don't say anything that doesn't need to be said. During an oral presentation, we have little time, so we must focus on the essentials. In particular, we shouldn't even touch on topics we're unsure about. If it's not essential, don't mention it. 6. Recite the text several times and time yourself. During the presentation, you shouldn't simply read the text. But this will be possible if the text is familiar. It's also very important to time yourself. Know how much time you have available: the text you've prepared should be that long. And try to give the impression that what you're saying is emerging in that moment. 7: The question of responding to criticism. First of all, if it's not necessary to respond, don't respond. If we're not explicitly asked to respond, we don't respond. Then everyone will act as they see fit. If, however, we are asked, then first we thank them, and then we must consider one fundamental thing: usually, the counter-examiner, who raises this objection, wants to push us onto their own ground. We, on the other hand, must stay within the confines of our work. Within the confines of the research, we must defend not our own arguments, but the arguments of the work we've done. And we try, as much as possible, to remain calm. As Umberto Eco said, the thesis student must be humble because he or she knows the limits of his or her work, but he or she must also be aware of its value. He or she must be rightly proud of it. For over ten years, I have taught courses in Research Methodology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardinia and at the ISSR in Cagliari. The courses introduce academic research through explanations and workshops. The main aspects of research are covered: study techniques, citation models, and the three phases: choosing the topic, gathering/organizing the bibliography, drafting/revising/submitting the text. I edited the "General Methodology" Manual, which accompanies the lectures and provides a practical guide for writing curricular papers, from the first papers to the doctoral thesis. #DanieleVinciMethodology #Thesis #Word
