Harton!!! Part 2, Catastrophe Strikes!!! Nbr 270

1959 Ironhead Sportster transmission, clutch and primary are assembled, problems found and corrected in short order, until the wheels fall off… Generally transmissions and magnetos are usually not big involved jobs in my shop. Indeed, the owner of the Harton was hoping that would be the case, however, the reality of a 65 year old Sportster engine shattered those hopes and dreams. Other than some weirdness with the countershaft needle bearing, the trans repair and assembly was without surprises. The mag was a routine cleaning and points adjustment not even worth videoing. After finishing up the trans install I was cranking the engine over and heard an expensive sounding noise… You’ll have to watch the video, all the way to the end, to see what’s up.
