48 Hours Eating Kansas City's Most INCREDIBLE Food!

Kansas City might be the most serious BBQ city in America. In this episode of my 2026 World Cup food series, I’m in Kansas City, to find out why this city is one of the great barbecue capitals of the world. Kansas City is built on smoke, sauce, ribs, burnt ends, brisket, pulled pork, sausage, old-school bars, neighbourhood restaurants and proper Midwestern hospitality. This is a city where BBQ is not just food, it is part of the identity. I start at Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, one of the most famous BBQ spots in America and a place Anthony Bourdain loved. Set inside a petrol station, Joe’s has become a true Kansas City institution, serving huge trays of barbecue packed with ribs, brisket, pulled pork, burnt ends, sausage, beans, slaw and sauce. Then I head to The Peanut on Main for wings at one of Kansas City’s classic bars. Proper dive bar energy, cold drinks, big portions and some of the best wings in the city. After that, I visit Disco Burger for an amazing burger that proves Kansas City food is not just about BBQ. Simple, juicy, smashed, crispy-edged and absolutely loaded with flavour. Then I go to Baba’s Pantry for Palestinian food, one of the most exciting stops of the trip. Fresh bread, shawarma, falafel, hummus, pickles, sauces and the kind of food that shows how much more there is to Kansas City than smoked meat. From there, I head to North East Pizza for one of the city’s most talked-about new pizza spots. Crispy, cheesy, properly cooked and another reminder that Kansas City’s food scene has a lot more range than people might expect. Finally, I finish at Slap’s BBQ for another massive Kansas City BBQ platter. Ribs, brisket, sausage, pulled pork, sides, sauce, smoke and one final reminder of why this city is so famous for barbecue. This is part of my 16-part series travelling to every 2026 FIFA World Cup host city in North America to find out which city has the best food.
