The 703RR is the new offering from the Chinese brand Zontes in the crowded "entry-level sports bike" segment. These are bikes with power outputs under 100 hp (reduced for those with an A2 license) that sacrifice some components to keep the list price as attractive as possible. But in the case of the 703RR, the classic "short deck" of this type of sports bike seems to have magically lengthened, because despite a price of just €7,990, no sacrifices appear to have been made in terms of features. The engine is a new 699cc three-cylinder, rated at 95 hp at 10,500 rpm and 74.4 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. These are impressive numbers for a 196kg kerb weight sports bike, but what's truly impressive, as mentioned, are the standard features: from the aluminum frame with a banana-shaped swingarm to the adjustable Marzocchi suspension, Brembo brakes with radial calipers, and the impressive Michelin Power GP2 tires as standard. The electronics are also above average for a bike of this type: there's deactivatable traction control, a color TFT dashboard with Bluetooth connectivity and tire temperature and pressure indicators, two engine maps (the throttle is cable-operated), a hill-climb quickshifter, and LED headlights. In short, on paper, the Zontes 703RR seems to offer much more than you'd expect from a mid-size sports bike costing under €8,000. But as always, the technical specifications and the official specifications only tell part of the story.
