Column-Type and Beam-Type W-shapes
In this video, we'll take a look at the W-shapes in the AISC Steel Construction Manual, and specifically at the different cross-sectional proportions that are offered across the catalog of shapes. We'll examine which of the W-shapes are best suited for use as columns, which of the W-shapes are best suited for use as beams, and some of the rules of thumb that can help us identify which of those shapes are which.
