In a significant hearing concerning a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the Supreme Court has clarified that while the Election Commission of India (ECI) holds the constitutional power to remove "doubtful" voters from electoral rolls, it does not have the authority to determine a person's citizenship. The Court further directed that lists of individuals with questionable citizenship should be forwarded to the Central Government, as only the Centre is the final authority to determine citizenship status.
