After graduating from Tamagawa University's Department of Arts and Letters, majoring in theater, he became the apprentice of his father, Hayashiya Kikusen (the first Hayashiya Kikuzo). On September 21, 2007, he was promoted to shin'uchi and took on the name of his father, Hayashiya Kikusen (the first Hayashiya Kikuzo), the first double name in the rakugo world.
