Tener hijos no te hace feliz (pero te da algo más importante)

In the previous episode, we explored why more and more people are choosing not to have children — and there are valid, meaningful reasons for that choice. But that’s only half the story. Today, I want to look at the other side: What are we giving up — as individuals and as a society — when we set aside parenthood? Is it still worth having children in a world that feels increasingly fast-paced and demanding? Can we reimagine parenting as something we genuinely want, not just something we endure? Picture a scale. On one side: stress, exhaustion, the endless tasks and demands of raising kids. The big question is: What’s on the other side that can balance — or even outweigh — the cost in time, energy, and responsibility? What lies on the other side is something more subtle, but also deeply powerful. Something we can’t always measure — but that might transform our lives in ways we never expected. In this episode, we explore: Why parenthood is still, for many, one of life’s most transformative journeys. How having kids shapes our identity, relationships, and personal legacy. The challenges of raising children in the digital age — from screen time to overstimulation to new pressures on parents. The urgent need to reinvent parenting in societies that value independence but forget the importance of community support. How raising children can reconnect us with a greater sense of purpose — and a legacy that goes beyond ourselves. This isn’t about romanticizing the past or reviving outdated expectations. It’s about starting an honest conversation: about rediscovering desire, facing today’s parenting challenges in a world of algorithms, and rethinking the future of family and society through a lens that’s empathetic, realistic, and human.
