Crossing Into Georgia — Saints, Vines & the World’s Oldest Wine | The Caucasus Day 5

We crossed the border on foot. 700 metres of concrete corridor. No cameras allowed. No view. Just walls on both sides and your luggage. And then — Georgia. Day 5 takes us into the Kakheti wine region of eastern Georgia. We visit Bodbe Monastery — the burial place of Saint Nino, the woman who converted Georgia to Christianity in 337 AD. We walk the ancient walls of Sighnaghi, a hilltop town overlooking the snow-capped Greater Caucasus. And we sit down at Kerovani Winery for a lunch built around qvevri wine — made the way Georgians have been making it for 8,000 years. Georgia doesn’t mess around with first impressions. 🏛️ PLACES WE VISIT → Azerbaijan–Georgia Border Crossing → Bodbe Monastery Complex — tomb of Saint Nino (337 AD) → Sighnaghi — City of Love, 4km walls, 23 towers → Kerovani Winery — qvevri winemaking, UNESCO tradition ⭐ → Sighnaghi municipality walk — war memorial wall → Wine Code — amber wine & Georgian cheese platter ⭐ GENUINE RECOMMENDATION — KEROVANI WINERY Traditional qvevri winemaking.
