How to Draw a Portrait with Pencil. Constructing the Human Head and Face Using Classic Drawing Techniques.// Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of the ABCs of Drawing series. Today, I'd like to share with you an interesting and fairly popular method for drawing a human head. I first learned about it many years ago from Andrew Loomis's book "Drawing Heads and Hands." The method works well. In my opinion, it's probably best used for sketches, rough drafts, and simple headshots. However, it's not very well suited for tracing and photorealism. Although that's just my personal opinion. The main idea behind this technique for constructing a face and drawing a portrait is to discard all nuances, details, and even facial features. Start with the basic shape—the head. It needs to be proportional and anatomically correct (in general terms). During this construction, we gain some clues that we can use later, in the next step, to correctly attach facial features to the head. Only then can we refine these details, tone the drawing, and give the portrait its individual characteristics. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, I won't be able to cover all of these steps in detail in this one short video. Therefore, I'll focus on the first and second steps. But don't worry.
