Picos de Europa

The Picos de Europa are a mountain range located in northern Castile, belonging to the central part of the Cantabrian Mountains. Although not very extensive, its proximity to the sea makes it rich in geographical features of great interest. This limestone formation extends across Asturias, Cantabria, and León, and its most striking feature is its height, in many cases exceeding 2,500 meters, due to its proximity to the Cantabrian Sea; at its northernmost point, it is barely 15 kilometers from the sea. Geographically, the Picos de Europa lie along the Cantabrian Mountains, although they are considered a separate unit due to their more recent formation. They cover a total area of ​​64,660 hectares distributed among the three provinces.
