11.000€ por un “motor Ferrari” de desguace… y pasó esto (BMW E21 Alpina)

€11,000 for a 'Ferrari engine' from a junkyard… and when I asked for something as basic as hearing it start, this happened. In the end, I ruled out the unicorn and chose the right swap for my BMW E21 Alpina: a period-correct M30. In this episode, my BMW E21 Alpina replica faces a dangerous… and rather expensive… decision. It all started with an email from a subscriber: “Marc, put the Maserati on ice… I found a complete Lancia Thema 8.32 at a junkyard.” And of course… the 8.32 is no ordinary car: an understated 80s sedan with a Ferrari-derived V8 and a fascinating history. The initial idea was to go for the unicorn. But when the excuses started, the weeks without being able to hear the engine, and a compression ratio that didn't add up… it was crystal clear: I wasn't putting a single euro into it. So, a change of plans: searching on Wallapop, a much more sensible option emerged for a well-executed and coherent project: a BMW 528i E28 as the donor car, with the M30, the classic six-cylinder engine that serves as the "period" base for an Alpina E21. The goal: to stop "dressing up" and transform this E21 into a well-rounded car, with soul… and aiming for around 200 hp with a sensible modification. Now it's time to show you the car as it is today, the engine it currently has, and everything we're going to improve to bring the whole package up to par: wheels, brakes, suspension, geometry… so that when you open the hood, it looks like a fine work of art, not an experiment. Thanks for being here and for supporting these projects. 👉 Vote and comment below: Unicorn Ferrari… or a coherent Alpina?
