Raag Megh is one of the most evocative and revered ragas in Hindustani classical music. The word "Megh" means cloud, and the raga is celebrated for its ability to evoke the atmosphere of dark rain clouds, gentle showers, cool breezes, and the refreshing fragrance of the earth after rainfall. Raag Megh belongs to the Kafi Thaat and is an Audav–Audav (pentatonic) raga, employing five notes in both the ascending and descending movements. It omits Gandhar (Ga) and Dhaivat (Dha), giving the raga its distinctive open and spacious character. Although often associated with Megh Malhar, Raag Megh is an independent raga with its own melodic identity.
