Mt Barney - North ridge

Ascent of North ridge, version 1. Winter 2021 #6 - A visit to North peak via North ridge, observing the route and its features. Ascent and descent. Walking conditions : Tracks and off track walking. North ridge has an intermittent foot pad, and some short climbs and exposed rock scrambles are encountered. Walk length: Probably 7km one way. 900m height gain. Notes : This ridge presents the mountain on its own terms. Off track walking on Mt Barney is always much harder than the main routes. North peak is 120 metres lower than East peak, but a big effort is still required to get there. A footpad is present in many places, helping with navigation, but much of the way is interpretative. There are at least three challenging sections involving steep scrambles with exposure. I like to bring rope for descending. This is another ridge worthy of being guided along.
