Usedom ist geteilt – warum gehört ein Teil der Insel zu Polen? (kaum jemand kennt den Grund)

Today, the western part of the island belongs to Germany, while the eastern part, including the city of Świnoujście, belongs to Poland. But this wasn't always the case. Until 1945, the entire island was part of the German Reich. It wasn't until after World War II that the border was redrawn – and suddenly it ran right through the middle of the island. In this video, we'll examine why this unusual border came about, the role the Oder estuary played, and the political decisions made after the war that led to Usedom being divided between two countries today. A look at a small line on the map – and at a story that reveals much about the reorganization of Europe after 1945.
