Recordando VERANO AZUL, La Serie Más Exitosa De La Televisión Española

The series Verano Azul (Blue Summer) was created by Antonio Mercero and premiered on Televisión Española (TVE) in late 1981, becoming one of the biggest hits on Spanish-language television as the episodes progressed. A town on the Costa del Sol during a summer vacation served as the backdrop for the creation of a group of young people: Julia, Bea, Javi, Pancho, Quique, Piraña, and Tito. Their adventures, in which a painter named Julia and an old sailor known as Chanquete collaborate, unfold over 19 episodes. The series, created by TVE, captivated audiences of several generations, and its success is repeated with each rerun, largely due to the themes it addresses and the way they are handled. Just to name a few: divorce, environmental awareness, alcoholism, sexuality, and death—the latter providing one of the most memorable moments of Verano Azul, the episode in which Chanquete dies. Also worth mentioning is its extraordinary soundtrack, which includes a version of Joan Baez's "No nos moverán" and the song specially composed by Carmelo Bernaola and used as the theme song for Verano Azul.
