UN PONTE PER MOLTI...MA NON PER TUTTI: CITTA' TAGLIATA IN DUE, ANCHE PER I PEDONI | 14/07/2025

TG Bassano del Grappa 07/14/2025 - BASSANO DEL GRAPPA - A show on the old bridge, but the city remains cut in two. And you can't even lean out from the Terraglio... || Ladies and gentlemen, hurry up and cross, because the bridge—or rather, all bridges—are closed for the concert. Then those who pay can stay, while everyone else goes around, unable to lean out and at most listen to the music. That's how it goes today in Bassano, where the concert, complete with fireworks over the Brenta, will create a very intimate atmosphere for a large portion of the city. Let's go in order. The old bridge with the orchestra playing will be closed for the duration of the event, while the new bridge...as well. In short, there's no way to cross the Brenta during the show. And we're not just talking about cars, because both bridges will also be closed to pedestrians. In other words, those with tickets can sit, while everyone else waits. Or goes around. That's fine if you're in a car, motorcycle, or bicycle. But for a pedestrian—say, an elderly man on foot—who needs to cross the river for whatever reason, the barriers remain down until the last note and the last round of applause, and the alternative is to travel a few kilometers south of the city center. The municipal ordinance states it in black and white, even going so far as to prohibit—and I quote—"pedestrian transit and pedestrian parking on the west side of Piazzale Terraglio from number 1 to 2, in order to prevent people from leaning toward the balcony overlooking the Brenta River." Remember the old warning sign on trains? Basically, those with tickets enjoy the show, while everyone else, including potential Portuguese, rages all evening. In this situation, the Ponte Vecchio becomes the preserve of only those who have purchased a front-row seat, in defiance of public property and a national monument. Or those who, as has happened with other television shows and performances, pay to take it for as long as they need it. Ultimately, the Ponte Vecchio, the Ponte degli Alpini, the Bassano Bridge, is just a bridge that belongs to everyone when needed.
