Mantova - Itinerario di un giorno (2025) 🇮🇹
Good morning and welcome back to the canal, 🔥 Today we're taking you with us to discover the city of Mantua 🤩 We leave the car at the Campo Canoa parking lot, just before the San Giorgio bridge that leads to the castle. 🏰 With our drone, we observe San Giorgio Castle from above and notice its square shape with four defensive towers, one of the most impressive military structures of the 1400s. It is a square-plan building with four towers and surrounded by a moat with three gates and drawbridges, designed to defend the city. It was built within the city, an unusual choice for the Po Valley, where important buildings were usually constructed outside the historic center. 😎 Just a two-minute walk takes us to Piazza Sordello, lined with many ancient buildings, the most important of which are: 📍Palazzo Ducale 🏰 📍Duomo or Cathedral of St. Peter ⛪️ The Duomo, designed in the 18th century, boasts a white Carrara marble façade. The interior of the cathedral is truly magnificent, with a Latin cross plan divided into five naves with four rows of fluted Corinthian columns. Mantua's Cathedral is therefore an artistic and architectural masterpiece, a testament to the city's historical and cultural evolution over the centuries. 🤩 Leaving the cathedral, we walk toward Piazza Broletto and Piazza delle Erbe, about 300 meters away. Here, we find the Palazzo del Podestà, which still stands as a symbol of the city's glorious historical era, built to fulfill public civic functions. ✍️ In 1472, the tower was erected, enriched by a public clock designed by the mathematician and astrologer Bartolomeo Manfredi. 🕰️ We turn our gaze and see the Rotunda of San Lorenzo nestled among monuments from later periods. The interior features a sacred area that transports visitors back to medieval times. The 10 lower and 10 upper columns that open onto the women's gallery are of varying shapes and forms, like silent sentinels of time, marking the rhythm of this magnificent space, which was fortunately returned to the city thanks to a restoration that began in 1908 and concluded in 1911. 👏 A few steps further, we reach Piazza Andrea Mantegna, where the Basilica of Sant'Andrea stands. The façade is designed with a triumphal arch superimposed on a classical temple. In addition to the tympanum, there is a second arch set slightly back. ⛪️ Built starting in 1472 but completed in the late 18th century, the Basilica of Sant'Andrea is the largest church in Mantua. Clearly visible thanks to the concentration of light aligned with the dome and the crypt below is a large genuflectory marking the spot where the blood of Christ is kept. 🩸 And after a long walk, we arrive at the last stop of the day. The famous Palazzo Te, designed by the artist Giulio Romano, was built between 1525 and 1534 on commission from Federico Segundo Gonzaga. 😍 We pass through the first room, the Ovid Room, or the Room of the Metamorphoses, with mythological representations inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses. Immediately after, the Room of Deeds, refers to the exploits of the Gonzaga family. We are now in the Room of the Sun and the Moon, where the room takes its name from the central fresco. ☺️ We now step outside into the Loggia of the Muses, which served as a vestibule for guests entering the state rooms from the Courtyard of Honor. We then move into the Hall of Horses and the fabulous Chamber of Cupid and Psyche, the most sumptuous in the palace due to the richness and value of its decorations. ⚜️ We leave the Loggia of the Muses, cross the courtyard, and enter the Loggia of David, located on the eastern side of the villa. This loggia acts as a filter between architecture and landscape, connecting the quadrangular layout of the palace with the Exedra garden, once adorned with flowers and fountains. 💦 We return to the palace where other rooms await us, including the stucco and emperor rooms. They are very beautiful, but at this point we are excited and can't wait to enter the Chamber of the Giants. 😍 Finally, the most famous and spectacular room in the palace, the dynamism and expressive power of the enormous and tumultuous images. Giulio Romano, author of this masterpiece, smooths the edges between the walls and the vault, catapulting you into the heart of the event, inspiring amazement and a sense of alienation. 😮 The scene is captured at the moment when divine vengeance is unleashed from heaven against the wretched giants. Observing this room is a unique experience ❤️ We look forward to seeing you in the next video in a new city in our wonderful Italy 🇮🇹 ‼️ For all other social media, you can find me on my landing page 👇 https://linktr.ee/viacoltubo_
