Tuberculosis is caused by a bacteria known as mycobacterium tuberculosis and is a deadly disease if not diagnosed and treated in time. Once inside the huang bodies there are 3 fates which this mycobaterium tuberculosis may come across. 1=human immune system is powerful enough to promptly get rid of this germ and clear body of it. 2=immune system contains the bug but it stays in the body in the sleeping mode known as LTBI or latent TB infection for some years and once immune system is weak this sleeping germ will awake to attack human body. 3=this bacterium causes disease in han with following signs and symptoms ..chronic cough longer than 3 weeks in duration ..blood in sputum/Phlegm ...Low grade fever with night Sweats ...weight loss There are 2 screening tests which can be used to know the presence of this germ inside our bodies be in latent or active form. 1=Purified Protein Derivative is a skin test also known as Mountax skin test. 2=IGRA ( Interferone Gamma Release Assay) this is a blood test used for screening purposes.Moreover IGRA test also can make a difference between Latent disease and vaccinated status. Once screening test done and if these are positive than th next stage is ro find out if someone is having active disease and for that we have 2 very important tests .one is chest xray and second one is Sputum for Acid Fast Bacilli or Sputum For AFB.
