Professional Wrestling went through an incredible boom period during this time with WCW airing on TNT and WWF Raw airing on the USA Network (and, at this point, TNN), fans were spoilt for choice with both shows eventually putting on great shows while trying to gain the lead in the TV ratings. WCW Mayhem has wrapped up and Scotty Steiner is finally at the top of the mountain. Scott needs some competition; he's taken out Booker T, he's taken out number 1 contender Sting, so Ric Flair grants someone a title match tonight against Big Poppa Pump in the Nitro main event who has some issues with the new champion. Scott's Starrcade 2000 opponent is also revealed at the end of the show, and it's a big return for this particular individual. On Raw Kurt Angle says he'll walk out of the WWF if things don't improve. He's tired of all the crazy stuff going on in the company right now but Mick Foley finds Angle's statements a little hypocritical.
