Gregorian chant - Dominus firmamentum meum - Communion antiphon

"Dominus firmamentum meum" is the opening line of the traditional Gregorian chant used as the Communion antiphon for the 4th Sunday after Pentecost (and historically the 10th or 17th Sunday of Ordinary Time). “Dominus firmamentum meum” is Latin and translates roughly as “The Lord is my stronghold / foundation / fortress”. It comes from the language of the Psalms, especially Psalm 18 (Vulgate numbering Psalm 17), where God is described as rock, refuge, and strength. In the liturgical tradition of the Catholic Church, this phrase appears in the context of Gregorian chant communio antiphons. In the Roman Rite Mass, the Communio (Communion antiphon) is: A short chant sung (or recited) during the distribution of Holy Communion Part of the Proper of the Mass (it changes according to the day or feast) Usually drawn from Scripture, especially Psalms or the Gospels In this video "Dominus firmamentum meum" is performed by Scola Gregoriana Brugensis, a male choir singing at the Carmelite church in the city centre of Brugge, Belgium. #GregorianChant #Communio #SacredMusic #LiturgicalMusic #CatholicLiturgy #RomanRite #GradualeRomanum #ChantTradition
