How can a physical action like sleep become a service to God? And how should we respond to Maimonides’ medical instructions that are incompatible with modern science? In this lesson, we will conclude our discussion of the principle “in all your ways know Him,” and explain how directing the body’s needs for the sake of Heaven prepares us for the knowledge of the Creator. We will then examine the laws of opinion, and define the essential difference between Maimonides’ rulings as a halachic scholar and his recommendations as a physician of his time.
