What if the people hurting dogs love them too? With Niki Tudge, The Pet Professional Guild (PPG)
Niki Tudge spent $35,000 to find out whether the dog trainers who hurt dogs care about them at all. The answer surprised her. Niki is the founder of the Pet Professional Guild, a body of around 20,000 people built on one line: no shock, no prong, no pain, ever. She has spent more than a decade trying to move the dog training industry away from fear and force. She came to it sideways, after a career running luxury hotels across Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, and Barbados, and getting her first dog with no idea what she was doing. She joins Nadine to talk about where dog training really stands. She shares what the research found about balanced trainers, the ones still using aversive tools, and why they are not the cold, uncaring people the other side imagines. Why she thinks the way we label "bad behaviour" is the real problem. The landmark lawsuit that forced a shock collar company to pay out nearly $2 million and admit their product harms dogs. And why she is certain it will be ordinary dog owners, not governments, who finally bring harsh training to an end. Niki is one of the most optimistic voices in the dog world. By the end, you might hear why. If the person using the harshest methods still loves their dog, what does that change about how we reach them? Guest: Niki Tudge, founder of the Pet Professional Guild, The Dog Smith, and co-founder of Doggnostics. Former international hospitality executive, now one of the leading voices in force-free dog training.
