Its creator was Maria Cobarsí and it was in that year when together with some women from the Women's Section of the Phalange they mounted the first exhibition. Since 1956, every May, this spring festival has been held for a week, attracting people from all over the world. Its creator was Maria Cobarsí, at that time, delegate of the Women's Section of the Traditionalist Spanish Phalange and the JONS in Girona. The first edition was held in 1954 and the exhibition took place in the Rest Hall of the Girona Municipal Theater. Professionals and people who liked flowers already took part in that first edition. The first edition consisted of exhibiting bouquets of flowers and plants. Its duration was a single weekend. This initiative was so successful that they decided to follow it year after year. However, in 1955 there was no flower exhibition, it started again in 1956. From 1958 the exhibition moved to the Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, where for the first time, in this third edition, the exhibition was promoted with a poster made by the artist Carles Vivó. The exhibition changed its setting over the years: in 1985 it was held in Sant Domènec. In 1992, at an opening in the old quarter of Girona, thanks to the initiative of councilor Josep Maria Birulés. Thus, "Girona, Temps de Flors", a motto coined in 1993 by the poet Josep Tarrés. During this flower festival, privately owned courtyards and gardens are exhibited and an itinerary is marked to be followed by public but also private spaces. Over time, a series of complementary artistic activities, exhibitions, collaborations in the montages and a castle performance have been organized around the exhibition. Thus, currently the activities of the "Girona, Temps de Flors" are the flower contest, the photography contest and the shop window contest. In addition, since 1958 each edition has been presented with a poster made by an artist. Some of the most notable posters have been: Emília Xargay (1959), Modest Cuixart (1986), Carles Declaux (1999) and Domènec Fita (2005).
