Mesoscale modeling of laminates in Abaqus using continuum shell and cohesive elements - Part 1
In this video, we performed mesoscale modeling of cross-ply laminates using Abaqus standard. The plies were modeled using continuum shells with Hashin damage criteria. To facilitate the interlaminar delamination, cohesive elements have been used. In the second part of the video, we are going to review similar modeling but with the cohesive surface (contact) to facilitate delamination. Several techniques have been introduced in this video such as partition using datum plane, creating datum plane from offset, assigning material orientation, creating continuum shells and cohesive elements, making sure the correct assignment of stacking direction for both cohesive and continuum shell elements.
