El cardenal Cobo, en el I Congreso Jordán 2024: «Las victimas nos afectan a todos»

"The Church in Madrid will host, at the beginning of next academic year, a simple ceremony to recognize the victims of abuse." This was announced by Cardinal José Cobo, Archbishop of Madrid, who participated in the closing of the First International Jordan Congress on abuses of power in the Church, organized by the Society of Jesus. After three days of meetings, the various speakers analyzed the structural causes of abuse and possible solutions, drawing on the dialogue between Theology and other disciplines. Thus, in his closing remarks, the Cardinal acknowledged that the event they are working on "will not be the end of anything, but rather a space for encounter, reparation, and witness that seeks to respond to what the victims are telling us." It will also be an act of prayer —he said— in which, "recognizing our mistakes, we will express that we want to continue accompanying the victims, putting them at the center of everything, having them as companions on the journey, learning a little more from them each day, so that we can continue advancing in a culture of good treatment and respect inside and outside the Church."
