La survie de l'artisanat ancestral japonais - Reportage Japon

Shuji Nakagawa is a Japanese woodworker working in a small town called Otsu in Shiga prefecture, located east of Kyoto and bordered by Lake Biwa. He perpetuates a family expertise that has become very rare in Japan: he makes ki-oke. They are basically wooden buckets that can be use for different purposes of everyday life, such as bathing or cooking. But those past few years, as modern lifestyles are constantly changing, Mr. Nakagawa had to come up with new ideas to keep his art alive. From collaborations with designers from around the world to beautiful original creations, Shuji Nakagawa has been able to adapt to a changing world that leaves these traditional objects behind and tend to favor industrial objects, cheaper and more accessible. His works have earned him international recognition and he travels overseas several times a year to showcase his latest creations. We had the chance to start our 80 Jours Japon project with Mr. Nakagawa. He warmly welcomed us in his workshop to show us his work, a bit of his daily life and to talk to us about his opinion on Japanese craftsmanship, the worlds of art and design, and how he sees the future. Come with us visit his workshop and spend two days with him, a man as passionate as inspiring who wants only one thing: for crafts to be recognized as the art form it actually is. *** You can support our project on uTip, it's free! https://utip.io/imrodolphe *** My social networks: Twitter :   / imrodolphe   Instagram :   / imrodolphe   Facebook :   / planetcalling   My partner in crime's social networks:   / amuamy   For more photos and news about the project:   / 80joursjapon   To support us: Tipeee : https://en.tipeee.com/planet-calling Music : Epidemic Sound *** OUR PROJECT: What is 80 Jours Japon (80 Days Japan) about?
