A 38-story building located in Midtown Manhattan, on East 42nd Street, was evacuated after serious structural damage was detected, forcing New York authorities to cordon off the area and evacuate nearby buildings. Arturo Ángel, editorial director of Entorno MX, explained that the incident occurred when bricks began to fall and subsequently, buckling of steel structures was detected between the 21st and 22nd floors, triggering a large-scale emergency response. The journalist noted that the building, formerly occupied by Pfizer, was undergoing renovations to become a residential complex with approximately 1,600 apartments. He added that construction unions requested an investigation into possible negligence or irregularities in the work, while authorities continue to assess the building's condition to determine whether it can be reinforced or must be demolished. The emergency resulted in street closures, traffic disruptions, and affected thousands of people in one of Manhattan's busiest areas.
