Straight Razor Hollow Grinding POV | Portland Razor Co.
This video demonstrates how we set the initial hollow grind on our standard 6/8 straight razors. After the razor "blanks" are cut by water jet, we use a 2x72 ceramic grinding belt on a 4" wheel to define the blade's shape and bring it to about 0.030 in. in preparation for heat treatment. The pan beneath the grinder is filled with H2O to catch hot slag and provide coolant to keep the razor at a workable temperature.
