BMW GSA 1200 Brake flush

BMW R1200GSA – Front & Rear Brake Fluid Flush (DOT 4) Spongy lever? Long pedal travel? In this video I flush and bleed the brakes on a BMW R1200GS Adventure to restore crisp lever feel and strong, even braking. We cover reservoir service, caliper bleeding order, ABS pump activation, and post-flush checks. Tools & Parts Brake fluid: DOT 4 (preferably DOT 4 LV) Clear bleed hose + catch bottle 8/10 mm wrenches (check your bleeder size) Syringe/turkey baster for reservoir cleanup Small funnel, shop towels, nitrile gloves Optional: speed bleeders, GS-911 or Motoscan to cycle the ABS pump Procedure (overview) Protect & Prep: Cover tank and plastics—brake fluid eats paint. Bars level, wheels chocked. Front: Suck out dark fluid from the front reservoir, refill with fresh. Bleed right front caliper first, then left front (furthest to closest). Keep reservoir above MIN at all times. Rear: Service the rear reservoir, then bleed the rear caliper until clean, bubble-free fluid flows. ABS Pump: 2007+ non-servo bikes: Either use GS-911/Motoscan to run the ABS bleed routine or do a short ride and trigger ABS a few times on a safe surface, then do a quick re-bleed. 2004–2006 servo/iABS bikes: Different process—two circuits (control + wheel) and additional bleed points at the ABS unit under the tank. Use the correct funnel and follow the servo-specific steps. Finish: Set levels to “MAX,” clean any spills, check for leaks, and test the lever/pedal feel. Re-torque any fasteners per your service manual. Model Notes Fluid type: BMW specifies DOT 4; DOT 4 Low Viscosity is recommended for ABS performance, especially in cold weather. Intervals: Typically every 2 years (or sooner if contaminated). Clutch: Separate system (many models use mineral oil—do not mix with brake fluid). Safety Brake fluid is hazardous. Dispose of waste properly.
