The film The Witch (full title The Witch: A New-England Folktale, 2015) is the directorial debut of American director, screenwriter, and production designer Robert Eggers. Regarding genre, this film by Robert Eggers is usually defined as either folk horror or mystical horror films. But I believe Eggers' The Witch can easily be defined as a psychological thriller with horror elements. After all, the film is fascinating, primarily from the point of view of analyzing the origins and circumstances of that psychosis, which is known in history as the “witch hunt.” The founder of analytical psychology, Carl Gustav Jung, is credited with the shortest description of mysticism: “The mystical is a continuation of the psychic.” It is the mental and psychological aspects that can clarify and explain a lot in the events of Robert Eggers’ film “The Witch.” When preparing a video essay for Eggers’ film, I drew attention to one little-known to modern audiences film with a similar theme - the silent film “The Witches” (1922) created by Danish director Benjamin Christensen.
